Temperature Snake 2023

January 15, 2023 | My Crochet Projects, Temperature Project Gallery, Non-Blanket Patterns

Here is a secondary project that I am working on – a temperature snake! This all started because the yarn I originally ordered and was hopeful about (it is metallic sparkle) proved to be too thin and rough for a blanket, so I changed my plan. I am using a 3.75 hook and Scheepjes Twinkle yarn. The yarn is beautiful to look at on the skein, but the skeins are small and says they are DK weight, but feels thinner than DK.

I have actually never made amigurumi before. When I first started, I overstuffed and you could see the white stuffing through the stitches. I didn’t want to remake and make the stitches smaller – it is already quite small – so I re-stuffed with black poly fil from Michael’s.

I am not following a pattern. I just started with 3 ch ring, then did 6 sc into the ring, did some rounds of increases until it was the width I wanted, then started decreasing a little until I got to the snake body I wanted – which is 20 stitches around. I may gradually go up a little because that is what snake bodies do (I have had snakes as pets), and then decrease toward the end. Each day is two rounds of the color. I am going to put a pattern of black, white, black, in between each month.

The eyes were purchased from Amazon. I looked up “reptile” safety eyes, though this set has even better looking reptile eyes, I chose these because they are rainbow.
